There's always debate as to who was the first teen idol. Now it's true that in the late 1930's and early 40's the concept of the teenager hadn't quite gelled in popular culture. But as long as we can retroactively define this chronological deliminated socioethnic congregation, we can nominate Frank Sinatra for the honor.

Later Frankie - with whom hordes of screaming teenage bobby soxers is inexorably linked - evolved to the mature sophisticated Chairman of the Board. Of course, by then the bobby soxers had put aside their girlish infatuations and considered themselves sophisticated mature ladies. Which many of them were.
