Without doubt THE epitome of the Big Bands of the Swing Era was the Glenn Miller Orchestra. It was led by (who else?) Alton Glenn Miller and it performed from 1939 to date.

Yes, there is still an official Glenn Miller Orchestra. Which brings up an interesting philosophical - or at least semantical point.
