Pete Seeger has the unusual distinction of having written songs that have been so popular that people don't know he wrote them. There was one case where a folk group issued a recording with one of Pete's songs. Knowing no better, they simply labeled it as "trad." So they were surprised when they got a note pointing out that Pete was both the composer and the owner of the copyright. The group - the Kingston Trio - were surprised, begged Pete's pardon, and corrected the attribution on the next release.
Born May 3, 1919, Pete died on January 27, 2014 at a young 94 years. Naturally a brief summary of Pete's life and career can hardly be brief. But you can read a bit about Pete's most interesting and productive - and patriotic - life if you click here.
