I've been told this is a rhea - a relative of the ostrich and emu. Whatever it is, it was a bird looking in our car window at a safari drive-through park. Not drawn as the bird looked through the window, but from a photograph taken at the time.
Lest purists get their dander up, this was drawn totally free hand and totally by eye - without any "mechanical" measuring technques. Besides, for some of his most famous Tahitian paintings, Gauguin painted them from photos.
