Another cast study, this time in charcoal. When I was drawing this one, one of the professors was going around taking pictures of the casts for a lecture on the history of the casts. He said that some casts have been thrown out from time to time since the philosophy of whether you should spend time drawing casts has flip-flopped over time. When the pendulum swings back to where cast drawing is OK, then they pull the casts out of storage or the trash. So a number of the casts - some made from the originals - aren't in the best of shape. In fact a drawing of this cast that was made in the late nineteenth century was exhibited recently. The other arm was there.
Don't know if he fig leaf was on the cast when they first made it or added after it got to the US.
