In making charcoal drawings the first thing you usually do is start"blocking out" the dark areas. Then you make the darks darker; the lights lighter, and fill in details. But at this point this looked like a good place to quit.
One trick a teacher once pointed out is that if you're having trouble, don't draw the figure; draw the shadows. Danged if it doesn't work.
