Howler monkeys encompass quite a number of species, but this one is the Guatemalan black howler (Alouatta pigra). Like many New World monkeys, they have prehensile tales which give them greater stability and mobility in the trees. At present, howlers are endangered due to the expansion of human settlements and hunting.
And yes, they are aptly named. Howlers emit loud hoots that can be heard five miles away.
