June 23, 2012 marked the 100th birthday of one of the Twentieth Century's mathematical titans, Alan Turing. Alan is usually credited as the founder of computer science. But whether his famous "Turing Test" really can tell if computers can think is very much up in the air - the test might actually be more of a test of the gullibility of humans. Alan did though show us although computers might be able to do everything, theys can't automatically do everything.
CooperToons will pause for a modest cough and mention that this drawing of Alan was used by Alan's employer, the University of Manchester (UK), as part of the celebration of Alan's centenary - with the full approval of Alan's most recent descendant!
There's a lot of books and even television shows about Alan. And there's even a bit more if you click here.
