Emerald Toucanet
Curmudgeons will no doubt raise the accusation of double dipping as this painting of an emerald toucanet is virtually the same as an earlier rendering. The difference, though, is the medium. This picture is painted in acrylics while the earlier work - which you can see in another window if you click here - was in pastel.
There are approximately 12 species of toucanets and compared to other toucans their bills are relatively short. The emerald toucanet is divided into the southern (Aulacorhynchus albivitta) and northern (Aulacorhynchus prasinus). As may seem self-evident, the northern toucanet lives further north - in Mexico to Nicaragua - than the southern bird which lives in south American in the Andes down to Peru.
So although one species of the birds cannot range from Mexico to Peru, it is possible that toucan.
